Fall pumpkins and autumn decorations ready for pumpkin season in Missouri

Pumpkin Season Has Started, but Missouri Is Still 108°

Fall pumpkins and autumn decorations waiting for cooler weather

Fall is on the calendar. Missouri has other plans.

The calendar insists it's September.

The stores have pumpkins stacked to the ceiling.

Coffee shops are rolling out every pumpkin-flavored drink imaginable.

Fall candles are burning.

The porch goose has changed outfits.

Meanwhile...

Missouri looked at all of this and said...

"Best I can do is 108°."

Every year, we convince ourselves this will be different.

"This is the year we'll drink coffee on the porch."

"This is the year we'll wear flannel in September."

"This is the year we'll enjoy crisp fall mornings."

Then we walk outside, immediately regret every life decision, and head right back to the air conditioning.

Even the dogs are confused

You ask, "Want to go for a walk?"

They're thrilled.

You open the front door.

A blast of hot air hits everyone in the face.

The dog slowly turns around, walks back inside, and flops directly on the nearest AC vent.

Honestly...

Same.

The pumpkins don't know what to think either.

They're sitting on the porch, trying their best to look festive while slowly baking in the afternoon sun.

The mums?

They're hanging in there.

Barely.

Even our porch goose has already changed into its fall outfit. Missouri just hasn't received the memo yet.

🪿 Curious why people dress up porch geese in the first place? We dug into the surprisingly wholesome history behind America's favorite yard bird.

Decorating for fall, even when it's still summer outside

Of course, this doesn't stop us from pretending.

We're decorating anyway, lighting pumpkin candles while the air conditioner works overtime.

We're buying sweaters we'll probably wear for approximately eleven minutes before changing back into shorts.

Until then, we'll stick with T-shirts and pretend we're not melting. 😅

The dogs are ready for cozy season

The fluffy blanket on the couch?

Mine.

The one you folded neatly over the chair?

Also mine.

You're welcome to borrow a corner... if I decide you're worthy.

When cooler weather finally decides to show up, there are few things better than curling up with a cozy blanket and your favorite four-legged cuddle buddy.

The only members of our household fully embracing pumpkin season are the dogs.

They don't care what the thermometer says.

They heard the words "homemade pumpkin treats" and immediately declared fall officially open for business.

We recently shared five easy homemade pumpkin dog treat recipes, plus important tips on choosing 100% pure pumpkin and avoiding peanut butter that contains xylitol.

Because if we can't enjoy crisp fall weather yet, at least the dogs can enjoy pumpkin season.

Waiting for Missouri to get the memo

We know cooler weather is coming.

Eventually.

Probably.

Maybe.

Until then, you'll find us decorating with pumpkins, running the air conditioner, spoiling the dogs, pretending 108° counts as sweater weather, and checking the forecast every single morning hoping today is finally the day.

(It's never the day.)

Tell me I'm not the only one...

Have you already decorated for fall, or are you refusing until the weather drops below the temperature of the sun?
